2004.06.20 22:39
The Kenai River. Every year in late May/early June, the sockeye salmon, after spending a few years out at sea return to their birthplace upriver to spawn.

2004.06.20 22:31
As the salmon were trying to swim upstream, they were tossed back downstream and we could see them fly out of the water. Alas, we couldn't catch them in the photo.

2004.06.20 22:36
Look closely in the eddy, there are hundreds of salmon taking a break in order to gather the strength to make it upstream. It's an incredible act of nature that their way home.

2004.06.20 22:38
From the time the salmon leaves the ocean to the time it makes it to the top of the river, it does not eat so by the time it spawns, it's so weak and famished it dies, that's if it makes it without being caught by the thousands of avid sockeye salmon fisherman. We partook in this adventure that night.

The beautiful scenery on the creek. I wouldn't exactly call it a creek...apparently the name has something to do with the length, not the craziness of the water.
